The end is near!!! of school that is!
Being a high school teacher certainly has its challenges! Having had a former career in advertising I thought teaching would be a breeze!! As I approach my ten year mark this August I have to say I was wrong about "the breeze!!" It's more like a" monsoon!!" ha ha! Our students often come to us from broken homes, poverty situations, one parent households, substance abuse in the home etc.. the list goes on... How can one teacher be all things to every student? We can't, but we do have to show up and be present to our students! We all enter education hoping we can make a difference and for the most part we may never see the fruits of our labors for years to come!! This is the reality. The dream is that we hope that our voices and wise words have somehow penetrated the minds and souls of those we teach.
We keep teaching because we care and we know that education is the key to a better life, a way out of poverty and oppression. We tell our students that, "Education is something no one can take away from you!" We hope it sticks! then, take our summer rest and hope we are revived enough to do it all again next year! Blessings to all of my fellow teachers, our work is never done. We will though, live on in the hearts and minds of the students we've touched!
Happy end of the school year to all!!
