McNamara's Reunion

It was a lovely autumn day and the McNamara's, Bob & Karen hosted a family reunion at their historic, beautiful home in Guilford. Kay and I ventured out to meet and greet our relatives old & new. It was great to see them at a happy event. Uncle Bub and Aunt Claire are leading the clan these days, surrounded by their adorable grand children. We had a great time reminiscing about our parents. Who else can you share those quirky times and memories with eh??Like Gammies stuffing, the soda pop bottles in the pantry and the cute telephone seat in the dining room.
What struck me the most was how strong the family resemblance is from generation to generation. We hope to stay in touch and hopefully meet again!

Oh Danny Boy!!Your house is calling!!

Greetings from Linsley Lake. The clan has been enjoying the Linsley Lake Association this summer. It was gracious of them to let us join and we have all enjoyed our time together this summer. The lake to me has always been a beautiful sanctuary. It has continued to be untouched and pristine. I know that after an afternoon swimming with my brothers and sisters, I am renewed and ready to take on the day!!
As my headline indicates, our dear brother Dan is making a heroic attempt to buy our homestead back on Twin Lakes Road. There will be an open house this Sunday at 1:00pm.
Many of us will be going to show our support to Dan and his family, so please come and join us! We would all like to help him make this happen in order to ensure the house stays in the family for future generations to come!!
Here are the latest photos!!
See you Sunday!!
Love, Mary

Updates on Barb & Katie..As you can see Barb is doing well! and just had some news from Rob, Here is the latest. Please keep them in your prayers for a safe trip....They have arrived safely in Hinche after a two hour drive through the mountains north of
Port au Prince. The school and facilities there are more primative than those at Port au Prince and Jacmel. They will be teaching
English there. There is a day camp and Katey was asked if she could sing songs in English to and with the children. I can't think of a
better assignment for her.

They will be there for three days.

A Grande & Lovely Time!!

We gathered at my Irish cottage this past Sunday for my first St. Paddy's day celebration. Although not the masses of people we once knew, we had a small contingent of the Parady & Sullivan Clan and my close friends and their children attend. As I was cooking up a storm in the kitchen, I could hear Mar-Mars voice in my head directing my moves. I often say to myself how amazing she was in preparing food and parties for all the occasions!!( how we miss her!!) Here are some photos of our day!!
many thanks to Barb, Katie and Rob for their beautiful green bouquet, which was enjoyed by all!

Our Day Will Come!!

Greetings readers!!As I am off for another snow day, I am happy to say goodbye to February!!!!
February is along, cold, dreary month. It's old man winters last dose of snow and ice.St. Patrick's Day Parade is coming upon us!March 14th in New Haven. We will be congregating at my Irish cottage afterwards to celebrate our Irish heritage together!!!(Everyone is invited to come!)In the Irish language there is a famous saying pronounced Chuckie Arlaugh! Which means Our Day Will Come! This was a significant expression from our Irish ancesters fighting for their civil rights in a country known for their "troubles". I often think of how difficult life was for them and how oppressed they were. I often use this expression when I am facing a struggle or adversity, it is an inherited reminder to me that no matter what the obstacle or issue you face, to never give up!! Our ancestors did not and we need to keep that spirit alive and well in our families! With that here is a little excerpt on our beloved Saint Patrick....

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for thousands of years. On St. Patrick's Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived, and people would dance, drink, and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

The first St. Patrick's Day parade took place not in Ireland, but in the United States. Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched through New York City on March 17, 1762. Along with their music, the parade helped the soldiers to reconnect with their Irish roots, as well as fellow Irishmen serving in the English army. Over the next thirty-five years, Irish patriotism among American immigrants flourished, prompting the rise of so-called "Irish Aid" societies, like the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the Hibernian Society.

Today, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated by people of all backgrounds in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick's Day has been celebrated in other locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore, and Russia. In modern-day Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has traditionally been a religious occasion. In fact, up until the 1970s, Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17.

Cabin Fever!!

Mother nature is certainly taking over our winter wonderlands !! Having had enough of the indoors, I ventured out with my pup Kelly and my friends Lori and Ray to one of my favorite spots in Branford, the supply pond. My memories go back to my high school days there when we used to hang out there and smooch with our beaus! However back then I never appreciated the beautiful and magical trails that you can walk on so freely. To me it feels like you are being hugged by mother nature. Here are some photos of our adventures!!Enjoy!!
